GOAT FIGHT

This will take the form of a list, because I enjoy lists. I also enjoy filling out forms asking for basic information, because it feels like I’m taking a test where I already know all the answers.

Name: Amanda. My last name is in the top five most common last names in the US. My middle name is revealed only when I feel it pertinent or amusing, or someone feels compelled to guess. Or steals my wallet with the sole purpose of gawking at my driver’s license.

Age: 25 as of this writing, born 9 July of 1983.

Other Places on the Internet: Twitter, Ravelry, Foursquare

Education: Shuffled through public school in the Minnesotan suburbs, and graduated in a class of approximately 500 in 2001 from Osseo Senior. Four hilarious years and one move to Minneapolis later, I procured a BA in English Literature from the University of Minnesota. Grad school is more than a twinkle in my eye; I think it’s upgraded to pain-induced fireworks, but I’m too scared of the GRE at the moment.

Work Experience: I’ve supposedly come a long way from my first job (minimum wage in a cinema when I was 15, almost enough to keep me from ever going to the cinema again). After stints as a book clerk in a small independent shop, a phone drone for university admissions, and a desk jockey for the administration, I worked in Japan for two years teaching high school kids about English. Now I’m back in America, and after a stint of FUNemployment, I’m back behind a desk at the University. Other jobs I’ve held are fodder for inclusion in drunken games of “Two Truths and a Lie.”

Living Situation: Minneapolis, Minnesota. Maybe you’ve heard of it, as it is one of the greatest places on Earth.

Books: Reading is a bit of a Thing for me. Here are some stats:

  • Books owned: Approximately 400.
  • Favorite book size: Trade paperback, or 8″ x 5 1/4″ (198mm x 129 mm, for those of you to whom metric makes more sense).
  • All-time, top five favorite books: Which genre? Do short stories or poetry collections count? This list changes all the time, and would actually be better served as many small lists.
  • Contender for greatest children’s book: “The Wuggie Norple Story” by Daniel Pinkwater.
  • Book most purchased for others: “High Fidelity” by Nick Hornby.
  • Loaning: I loan books out with few issues, but have specific “loaner copies” of books that more people should read, but I have rights to be possessive of (autographed copies, etc.).
  • Unreasonably hated book: “Sister Carrie,” by Theodore Dreiser.
  • Dog-earing pages: Go straight to hell. Please.

I also compulsively buy travel guides, though I rarely read through them, and sometimes never go to the places written about. I do not have magazine subscriptions.

Preferred card game: While sober, Aussie Rules Rummy, Hex Hex, or Fluxx. While drunk (or getting there), Circle of Death.

Where can friends be found? In the kitchen, the den, hanging out on the stairs.
